The story behind it

Wivatara began with a simple vision: to transform natural textures into elevated design. Rooted in Thailand and curated from Amsterdam, the brand reimagines overlooked fibres as refined, timeless pieces made for modern living.

Each bag is crafted from water hyacinth, banana fibre, Lygora fern, or Lepironia sedge — fast-growing plants found in Thai waterways. In the hands of skilled artisans, these abundant materials are shaped into structured silhouettes and beautifully woven forms that celebrate texture, warmth, and effortless sophistication.

From nature to form, Wivatara brings together origin and elegance in every piece.

Wivatara was founded with a profound appreciation for Thailand’s natural landscape and its enduring weaving traditions. Across local villages, artisans hold generations of skill and knowledge, yet their work rarely reaches a global audience. At the same time, Thai waterways are often overtaken by fast-growing fibres such as water hyacinth — abundant materials with remarkable design potential waiting to be reimagined.

Wivatara emerged from this meeting point:

a vision to elevate Thai weaving traditions, support artisan communities, and transform abundant natural fibres into contemporary design with global appeal.

While every piece is meticulously handcrafted in Thailand, our base in Amsterdam allows us to present this artistry to a wider audience — beginning in Europe and expanding far beyond.
