Where Nature, Craft, and Culture Intertwine

Wivatara was created with a single intention: to reveal the beauty and value already present in nature and in human craftsmanship.

Born in Thailand and shared from Amsterdam with the world, Wivatara transforms overlooked natural materials into elevated, timeless pieces.

Our bags are crafted from water hyacinth, banana leaf, lygodium fern, and lepironia sedge, fast-growing plants that often become invasive in Thai waterways. Instead of allowing them to overwhelm ecosystems, we place them in the hands of artisans who know how to turn abundance into artistry.

Wivatara began with a deep respect for Thailand’s natural landscape and its rich weaving heritage. In villages across the country, artisans carry generations of knowledge but often lack direct access to international markets. At the same time, local waterways struggle with overgrowth from natural fibers like water hyacinth—materials with incredible potential but little use.

Wivatara was born at this intersection:

a mission to elevate Thai craft, support artisan livelihoods, and create contemporary design from natural materials that would otherwise burden the environment.

Today, while all of our pieces are fully handcrafted in Thailand, our home base in Amsterdam allows us to share this craftsmanship with a wider audience: first in Europe, and soon, worldwide.

Crafted by Artisans, Sustained by Community

Behind every Wivatara piece is a Thai artisan whose skill has been shaped by heritage and dedication. We work directly with local weaving communities to ensure fair compensation, long-term stability, and opportunities for growth.

Our aim is simple: to empower artisans with visibility, sustainability, and economic independence, so their craft can continue to flourish.

When you carry Wivatara, you carry their story.
